Treating the “Male Menopause also known as Andropause”

20% Of Men Age 60-80 Years Have Testosterone Levels Below Normal

When hormones are not balanced it can make you store too much fat, hamper your ability to fight stress, and cause you to eat when you’re full. It can lead to metabolic syndrome and diabetes and can adversely affect your sleep and sex life.

Hormones affect everything we do! The Endocrine system, which commands body activity utilizing powerful hormones, is like your body’s command center. The hypothalamus and pituitary glands are the control centers, sending out messages going back and forth among your organs. Your pancreas, adrenal glands, thyroid, and testes are all part of this finely tuned system.

How do you know if you are experiencing Male Menopause or
Adropause? The Signs and Symptoms Include:
• Fatigue – low energy
• Weakness – muscle loss
• Disturbed Sleep – insomnia
• Reduced Libido
• Osteoporosis
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• Irritability – moodiness
• Depression
• Memory Impairment

Many people may also experience the “Tired but Wired” Feeling. Due to high levels of mental and emotional stress the adrenal glands may become compromised. Symptoms of adrenal imbalance are stress and fatigue that is not alleviated with sleep. People may be feeling “tired all of the time”. Other common symptoms include sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, increased susceptibility to infections, reduced tolerance for stress, allergies chemical sensitivities and craving of sweets.

Is there a test to measure hormone levels in men?
Saliva testing is a convenient, inexpensive, and above all, accurate means of testing hormones. Studies have validated that saliva contains the free, “bioavailable” fraction of steroid hormones that have moved out of the bloodstream and into the tissue.

Saliva testing can be done anywhere anytime. Testing that relies on blood drawn in the doctor’s office makes it harder to obtain samples at specific times (such as in the early morning). Hormones in saliva are exceptionally stable and can be stored at room temperature for up to a week without affecting the accuracy of the result.

What is the Optimal Form of Testosterone for Replacement Therapy?
Natural Testosterone Replacement is central to the treatment of all facets of Andropause. Natural or “bio-identical” hormones are synthesized from natural plant substances to be identical in structure and function to those our bodies produce naturally. Natural testosterone must not be confused with synthetic derivatives or “anabolic steroids,” which when used by athletes and body builders have caused disastrous effects. Proper monitoring of laboratory values and clinical response are essential when prescribing testosterone replacement therapy. Bioidentical hormones are available through your doctor and formulated by our Clinical Pharmacists and Hormone Specialists, Jackie Mallet and Jeff Potter.
