Q: When Should I Start To Save For Retirement? Are You Putting Off Contributing to Your IRA?
A: You may want to think twice, because when it comes to your retirement account, contributing “early” may be better in more ways than one. Compounding can potentially be a powerful tool in pursuing your retirement goals. Depending on your time horizon, IRA funds may be accumulated for years or even decades. Consider the following hypothetical situation: An investor receives a sum of $10,000 from an inheritance. Knowing that she needs to begin saving for her retirement, she decides to contribute the entire amount to an investment vehicle with a modest 5 percent annual return. During the first year, she earns $500 on that investment, which increases her funds to $10,500.00. The second year, the
interest is accumulated not only on the $10,000, but also on the $500 earned in the prior year; bring the investor’s funds up to $11,025. This process would continue for the remainder of the time that the funds stay invested.* The longer money is left in the account, the faster it may begin to grow.
Also important, but often overlooked, is the beneficial nature of making annual IRA contributions prior to April 15. With today’s technology, monthly contributions into your IRA should be easy to set up. By contributing earlier, your IRA may potentially grow even faster, due to compounding. For more information on how the power of compounding can help you pursue your retirement goals, contact me today at (440) 250-1630.

Q: Difference Between the “Perfect Weight” and Reaching Our “Happy Weight”
A: Our perfect weight is often a number that is too low and too difficult to reach and maintain. Our happy weight is the weight that is reasonable and will allow us to be healthy, but experience celebrations and treats in moderation. Here are some steps on reaching your “happy weight.”
• 1) Set a clear goal.
• 2) Daily small decisions amount to huge payoœffs. It is the daily discipline
that equals lasting results.
• 3) Don’t go at it alone, this helps with accountability and support.
• 4) Drop the soda, limit your caœffeine, drink WATER!
• 5) Greens are your best friend. Have a variety of them every week in smoothies, in salads, in soups, or just sautéed with garlic and a little olive oil.
5) Track your food. Get Waisted has a wonderful tracker that gives a readout of the antioxidant content of your food.
• 6) Go for real food. If it comes in a can, bag, or package, contains more than three to five
ingredients, and if it has an ingredient that you cannot pronounce, reach for something else!
• 7) Move every day, aim for at least 10,000 steps.
• 8) Be grateful, and fill your mind, your speech, your life with as many positive affirmations as possible.

See What Everyone is Talking About i-Lipo: Targeted Fat Reduction

By Cindy Marx, Practice Manager, Raj Plastic Surgery

The i-Lipo laser from Chromogenex offers a safe and effective means to achieve immediate and measurable inch loss. i-Lipo uses low-level laser technology to stimulate the body’s natural process for releasing its stored fat, shrinking those fat cells helping to re-contour the body.

The human body stores excess calories from your diet in adipose tissue. When needed, those fat cells will break down their stored triglycerides into free fatty acids, glycerol and water, providing the body with energy during times of scarcity. That same metabolic process that is induced hormonally by the brain can also be triggered by low-level laser energy delivered by i-Lipo. Exercise creates a demand in our bodies for extra energy. Exercising after an i-Lipo treatment helps to burn the fat released from an i-Lipo treatment. More effectively assisting those who already are watching their calorie intake but need an extra boost to reduce those areas of fat that seem to be resistant to exercise.

i-Lipo is a revolutionary, non-invasive body shaping technology offering convenient, safe and pain free body contouring in as little as twenty minutes, without surgery and without downtime. This noninvasive approach to fat reduction can be used year-round on all skin types.

Clinical studies have confirmed the efficacy of the i-Lipo diode laser to deliver body shaping results. Two treatments per week for four weeks are recommended. All parts of the body can be treated where fat is stored, including the waistline, thighs, arms, leg and even under the chin. Patients typically report a 10% inch loss reduction following a treatment regimen.

i-Lipo is the first direct skin contact laser designed for fat reduction and body contouring to receive FDA approval for circumferential reduction. With proper diet and exercise over the course of eight i-Lipo sessions dramatic achievements in body reshaping are noticed.

Don’t Wait ‘till It’s Too Late

By Dr. Scott L. Rose

As we age, we develop different dental issues than when we were younger. Once a tooth is worked on, it will need constant care and maintenance for the rest of the person’s life. Almost all dental restorations have a lifespan and will need to be replaced over time. In fact, a restoration may have to be replaced many times over the lifespan of the individual.

There are many factors that determine the longevity of a filling. Some are inherent in the type of filling material itself. Other factors include the hygiene of the person, their diet, medications, habits, lifestyle, and pH of the saliva. Specific diseases and illnesses can affect the teeth, bones and gums.  There is a direct correlation between oral health and diet. Good nutrition has a role in preventing tooth decay and gum disease, while the health of our teeth and gums helps determine the type of foods we can eat. Another factor that influences the longevity of restored teeth is the bite. A balanced bite with a full complement of teeth is much more stable than a mouth full of missing teeth or a collapsed bite. One place where restorations often fail is at the interface between the tooth and the filling. It is at this junction that breakdown usually begins.

Amalgam (mercury/silver) fillings expand and contract at different rates than natural tooth structure. This causes microscopic cracks and gaps where dental decay takes hold. They also act as a wedge, many times leading to a fracture in the tooth. Bonded restorations tend to have sealed margins and hold the tooth together.

I always advise taking care of problems when they are small. Letting things go usually leads to more extensive and expensive work. It can also limit the restorative options available. The best long term plan is regular dental visits. It will save your teeth, time, and money in the long run.
