Is Your New Year’s Resolution To Feel Better and Have More Energy?

Most Common Questions We Hear From Our Patients

Why do I feel stressed and sluggish, even when I shouldn’t be? Why do I experience hot Œ ashes and night sweats? Why does my lower back hurt and I am losing hair and noticing my fingernails have ridges? Why isn’t my weight loss program working?

A: These are all problems centered on reproductive, thyroid and adrenal imbalances.

Do you want to know why people come to Clinical Apothecaries for help with these issues? Everything we compound is based on a formula agreed upon by your doctor, nurse or physician assistant and our clinical pharmacists. It’s a special formula customized to your needs. If we do not get the expected results, we will work with your prescriber to
change or adjust the formula until the expected outcomes are achieved.

Clinical Apothecaries is a unique type of pharmacy practice. We use the ancient art of pharmaceutical compounding, coupled with today’s science and technology. Long before the manufacturing of one size fits all medications, compounding pharmacies and apothecaries would combine ingredients to create patient specific medications. As drugs began to be mass manufactured and commercially available, the pharmacist role as a chemist became merely a dispenser of medications.

Our clinical pharmacist will work with any medical issue, but our top area of expertise are in reproductive, thyroid and adrenal hormones issues; pain management without the use of narcotics, migraine headaches, scar and wound care issues as well as Veterinary Medications. Call to schedule your visit with Pharmacist Jeff and Laura.

“Clinical Apothecaries has provided me with the ability to provide customized prescriptions
to my patients. This is especially helpful when prescribing bio identical hormone therapy
where each patient is unique in her metabolism and chemistry…” – Ann Marie Stuart, MD

We will also create a class or workshop to specifically meet individual or group needs.”

Customized Therapeutic Yoga

The personalized approach and customized offerings of PTEWC caught the attention of Dawn Miller, Yoga Therapist and owner of North Coast Wellness. Dawn specializes in working individually with clients to co-create customized therapeutic yoga practices that help individuals reduce symptoms of chronic disease, recover from illness and injury, and manage stress. She is collaborating with PTEWC to provide therapeutic yoga services.

“Therapeutic yoga is helpful for many conditions such as low back pain, fibromyalgia and chronic pain, anxiety and depression, digestive system disorders, insomnia, and combatting fatigue from chemotherapy treatments. The reason that therapeutic yoga is so useful across a wide variety of conditions is due in part to the specialized combination of awareness, breath and movement. These components are tailored for a client’s specific health conditions and goals, so the overall effects of practice can be energizing or relaxing, physically challenging or restful – or anywhere in between. This is very different from the yoga offered in a typical general yoga class,” Dawn explained. “In addition, therapeutic yoga can be even more effective when combined with massage, acupuncture, and reflexology. All of these services complement each other and enhance the overall effectiveness.”

Dawn adds “Restorative yoga coupled with guided relaxation is a very popular monthly therapeutic offering at PWETC, and these classes typically sell out well in advance. Restorative yoga was originally developed to help individuals recovering from illness, injury, and surgery. It is a restful, rather than an active, yoga practice designed to bring the body and mind into a deep state of relaxation. This state of relaxation supports healing, reduces stress, and revitalizes a person’s energy reserves. It is particularly helpful for individuals who are experiencing high levels of fatigue and stress.”

New Year, New You. Q & A about Ultherapy

Interview conducted by Kayla Starta, a senior public relations/marketing major at Baldwin Wallace College and marketing intern at Docere Medical Spa & Laser Center.

The New Year is the perfect time to consider Ultherapy. Turn the clock back up to ten years with no surgery or downtime! Seem to good to be true? Keep reading to find out more. Leading Physician Dr. Jeff Viscomi at Docere Medical Spa & Laser Center answers some common questions regarding Ultherapy, and how you can achieve a fresher, tighter more youthful look.

Q: What is Ultherapy?

A: Ultherapy is a non-surgical procedure for the face and neck that stimulates the body’s own natural healing process to lift the skin over time. The use of FDA-cleared ultrasound technology enables physicians, for the first time, to see and then treat the deepest support layers of the skin – typically addressed in cosmetic surgery – without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

It is an ideal cosmetic procedure for those looking for natural yet noticeable results.

Q: How does this procedure work if it’s non-invasive?

A: Ultherapy uses two beams of ultra sound that pass through the skin. With just one Ultherapy treatment, the lifting process is initiated, but the effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months, as new, stronger collagen and elastin are created. Further improvements can even appear up to six months following a procedure as this collagen-building process continues.

Q: Will it hurt?

A: Some clients experience virtually no pain, while others have a more heightened sense of discomfort. Our staff will work with you to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Q: How does Ultherapy differ from laser treatments?

A: Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Lasers cannot reach the deeper layers at an optimal temperature without causing excessive damage to the superficial layers.

Q: Can Ultherapy replace a facelift?

A: While the results do not duplicate those of surgery, Ultherapy’s gradual improvements make it a compelling option for people who have mild to moderate skin laxity as well as those who want to “stay ahead of the game” and those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

Q: Is there any downtime after the procedure?

A: The treatment typically takes around 90-minutes. After the procedure there are no restrictions. You can use makeup, exercise, and continue your day-to-day activities.

Q: When can I expect to see results?

A: The ultrasound stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months.

Strength Training the New Fountain of Youth

By Eric Schaefer, Owner

We all want to find that very well known “Fountain of Youth”. We hear so many people talk about this mythological place, yet its location has been unknown for years! What if I told you it is just around the corner from your house and it is being disguised as “proper progressive strength training”?! Let me clear this up for you…strength training is
just about as close to the “fountain of youth” as we can physically get (pun intended!)! Strength training is designed to work with women and men of all ages ranging from adolescents to seniors; and it’s not just about “bulking up”. Proper strength training offers many more benefits…ones that can even slow down the aging process!

Youthful Strength: We have over 600 muscles in our bodies! They help us to function everyday…without them we become immobile; which is what happens to us as we age. Our metabolism is fueled from our muscles, the stronger our muscles are the better our metabolism functions. For every one pound of muscle we burn 15-35 calories per day- one pound of fat only burns 2-7! When you add muscle to your body you are burning more calories daily, even at rest! Our muscles give us energy and energy is what keeps us going, it is what keeps us youthful!

Increased Bone Density: Maintaining bone density is important for people of all ages, although it is especially important for men and women over 50. Exercise which causes the muscle to pull on the bone, such as proper progressive strength training, will help keep your bones strong! However, if the exercise is not performed properly and is not monitored you could end up putting too much stress on the joints, resulting in injury! Strength training must be done with slow, smooth, non-ballistic movements.

Cardiorespiratory Fitness: Strength training is a great way to build muscle, your heart being one of the most important muscles to build! A lot of people enjoy the benefits of cardio exercise; the same people may not know that proper progressive strength training also offers benefits to your cardiorespiratory health! As we age, our muscles (including our hearts) weaken; it is our responsibility to keep our bodies strong! Another bonus is the increased strength of your heart from weight training, which will allow for increased ability in your cardiorespiratory fitness activities such as walking! Stronger hearts keep us moving, keeping us young!

Proper progressive strength training offers allows us to preserve our most important asset….our health. Remember that strength training is more than just an opportunity to lose weight; it is a chance for us to drink from the fountain of youth!
